A  DESCRIPTION  OF  THE  HUNTING  GROUND  AND  ITS  INFRASTRUCTURE

According to the last air calculation data, Verkhnegolyginsky hunting ground is home to about 300 brown bears. An annual quota for bears is 20 licenses.
Bear trophy hunting for tourists-hunters has been organized on our hunting ground since 1992 and is conducted in 2 seasons: (spring hunt) – from April 25th through May 25th; (fall hunt) – from September 1st through December 15th.
In winter time from November 1st   through March 1st we organize hunting for fur animals such as sable, fox, mink, otter, lynx, wolverine, mountain hare, ermine, and also fowling capercaillie, partridge, and various species of ducks.
In summer time from July 1st   through September 1st extreme-safaris and various eco-tours are conducted on the ground.
Several properly equipped camps are at disposal of Kamchatka Bear Ltd. Three of them are located on the territory of Berkhnegolyginsky and are property of the company:

  1. The Central Camp is located on the shore of Golyginskoye Lake, a rich spawning ground for salmon (Red Salmon, Coho, Char, Molokan). The camp consists of several buildings.
  2. The first one is a guest cottage (4 rooms, 1-2 persons each), central heating, 4 shower cabins, cold and hot water, 2 WC, a big common hall.
  3. The second lodge was the only one in the past. It is a housing estate – four rooms for guests, a kitchen, a dining-room, a sauna, a warm WC, some utility rooms. At the moment this complex is for staff, but if necessary guests could also be accommodated there.
  4. An entertaining complex (320 sq meters total area) includes a hall with a big fireplace-hearth in its center and 12 easy chairs located around it, a bar, a pool table, a dining-room, 1 WC, 2 rooms for 3 people each (on the first floor), a kitchen, a big veranda, some utility rooms.
  5. The second camp is located in the area of hot springs on the Unkanovich mountain river, in 20 km to the South-West from the Central Camp. The camp consists of two buildings: the first one is for camp staff and storage of food and cooking. There is also a dining room there. Guests are accommodated in a hunters’ cabin for 3 people in 100 meters from the first building. There is a small covered water pool with natural hot water in a few meters. Stove heating. Electricity is available in the staff building; two WCs are outside.
  6. The third camp is located on the bank of the spawning Golygina river which flows into the Sea of Okhotsk. The camp consists of two buildings. The first one is a cabin for hunters and guides to be accommodated in different rooms. The second one is a dining room. WC is outside. According to season, in summer time spawning of several species of salmon happens in the river. June, August – Red Salmon; August - Humpback Salmon; October – Chum Salmon; November – Coho Salmon. Char and Rainbow Trout stay in the river almost all the year round.

In addition there are 6 hunters’ cabins (for 3-5 people each) on the hunting ground which are used during hunting for rest or overnight in case of necessity. Each cabin has necessary stock of firewood and food for 5-7 days.
There are two Lynx V-800 snowmobiles, three Buran snowmobiles at the disposal of our company for conducting spring bear hunt and bear watching eco-tours.
On the Central Base there are two UAZ-469 SUVs, two ATVs (Kawasaki and Yamaha) which are used during fall bear hunting and in summer time for eco-tours, and also two duralumin boats (3 meter long), and an iron boat (6 meter long) for transportation on the lake and fishing.

On the hunting ground there is an inner car road of 80 km length in total, which is used in summer and fall for driving hunters, anglers and tourists to places where bears, other animals and birds gather, and also for fishing.
In 1.5 km from the base, right at the place of the biggest spawning ground of salmon on the lake there is an observation tower for hunting and watching bears in evening and night time. It is three meters high and designed for 4 people.
In summer and fall red salmon spawning happens on Golyginskoye Lake.
